Pada hari ini, 30 Sept, pada tahun 1955, James Dean telah mati pada usia 24 tahun di dalam satu car crash accident di highway di California. Pada ketika itu, James Dean memandu keretanya iaitu kereta Porsche 550 Spyder yang diberi nama timang-timangan "Little Bastard" dan sedang menuju ke pertandingan lumba kereta di Salinas, California dengan mekanik peribadinya Rolf Wuetherich, bila maner secara tiba-tiba kereta yang dipandu James Dean terlibat dengan head-on collision dengan kereta yang dipandu oleh seorang pelajar kolej yang berusia 23 tahun yang bernama Donald Turnaspeed.
James Dean telah dibawa ke Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital, dan dia diisytiharkan mati pada 5.59 petang.
