PLEASE bear in mind that messy eating is normal when children are learning to feed themselves. It’s natural for them to start by using their hands and fingers and then move on to cutlery, cups and plates. Over time, their muscles and coordination improve, and mealtimes will be less messy. Smile. It will take a lot of time, practice and muscle coordination for children to learn to guide spoons to their mouths without making a mess.

Children go through developmental stages as they learn to feed themselves. First they learn to eat solids and then take food from a spoon. They start feeding themselves with their hands and then move on to feeding themselves with spoons, forks and cups. That’s a lot to learn, so you can expect a few spills along the way! Children love to experiment and play with their food, even after they’ve developed the motor skills they need to eat without mess. In fact, playing with food is one of the ways children develop their fine motor skills. Exploring the shape, colour and texture of food also helps children learn about their world. For example, here are just some of the amazing things your child might learn by playing with food:

  • Dropping things makes them fall down.
  • Throwing things makes them fly through the air.
  • Putting yoghurt in your ear feels weird.
  • Peas are round and squishy.
  • Sticking a sandwich in a drink makes Mommy upset!

If you can understand why your child is playing with food and have a laugh about it, it might make accidents and mess easier to put up with. Most children will definitely squish food in their hands, throw food and bowls onto the floor, deliberately dribble with their mouths full, or refuse to eat. 1 So? Here we go… to make all the mommies in the world happy… this is something that will assist you by giving the solution or how to cut down on mealtime mess and make it less stressful like I did! Winking smile

Divided into segmentation or compartments which actually an easy aid to measure how much children should be eating, as well as an aid to assist to remind Mommies to always try to keep a balanced diet of food for their children. HAPPY MAT stay grounded in one position. If you have children that really want to pull it off the table, they will. Ha ha ha… Open-mouthed smile.  That being said as one of our bigger problems is the flinging of arms and cups, causing plates and bowls to go flying. But once you securely place the EzPz HAPPY MAT (place on table and then push down in the corners and in the center), it can’t be pushed around. So this is one mat that can’t fly off the table because of its overall weight, it takes a while for young children to pull at ti and pick it off from the table, and that’s usually enough time for us to remind them to leave it alone and refocus their attention on the food and not on the mat. In short, HAPPY MAT suctions to the table, no more tipped bowls or plates.

Less Mess! The best thing about HAPPY MAT is that it keeps the mess down! (HOORAY!). Since it doesn’t move around and stays in place, since there is an additional matting around the plate, most of the crumbs and leftovers end up on the mat and not the floor or table. When your little one is done eating, you simply pick the entire mess up and wash.
